From Linksys to Zentyal to m0n0wall to Smoothwall

I have recently moved, and as such my internet options have become awesome. I am now on a 15x3 fiber connection that is just awesome. With my last internet (U-Verse), I didn't have the option to use my own equipment. Had they fixed it (and removed the stupid certificate requirement) I would have kept them when I move. As they did not, I have not. At any rate, I felt with the new awesome fiber connection that I need to branch out and not go with a simple Linksys router. No, no. I want to play with QoS, VPN's, proxy servers, and anything else I can use to make my internet a better playground. These reasons are why I was so drawn to Zentyal. I had played with eBox a while back, but had never gotten past the setup. Untangle looks like an awesome product, but as a home user I can't afford to purchase the fun features. So Zentyal it was!

Moving an LVM to a Different Computer or Server

It's been a while, but I should be back for a bit. Things have finally started to calm down, so I have had the fortune of completing some projects that have been on my mind of late.

The second project on my mind (but the first to blog about) is moving my server. Not in the sense of physically moving, but currently it is sitting on a single-core and I have had the chance to acquire a more-recent Core 2 Duo board. Now, I still need more memory for the board (3GB doesn't do it justice), but for now it will serve its fileserver purposes.

So! On with it! I currently have an LVM with a logical volumme mutant_lv in the volume group mutant_vg. This LVM needs to be moved from one motherboard to the other.

After much research, I have come to realize that moving a Linux computer from one motherboard to another is... simple. Move it. Linux takes care of the rest! I honestly thought I might have to rebuild this box, and am so glad I didn't.

Disabling HDMI Audio Passthrough in XBMC

I don't know exactly what worked, and I will try to clean this post up later, but here are the sites where I found the answers: http://ossnotebook.blogspot.com/2010/07/ubuntu-1001-maverick-on-lenovo-q150.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10638836#post10638836 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1876296 http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?s=8f341bcee7634816d4630bef9f61fd22&p=1424122#post1424122
